USPTO Ex Parte Appeal Statistics
 According to cumulative information on ex parte patent appeals that was released by the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office on September 16, 2003 at http://www.uspto.gov/web/offices/com/
sol/og/2003/week37/bpaiog.htm
, of the 2445 patent applications on appeal, 2093 (86%) are currently assigned to administrative patent judges. With the exception of a limited number of appeals involving special circumstances, the Board of Patent Appeals and Interferences is currently deciding baclogged appeals that were received by the Board in fiscal year 2000 for the electrical arts, 2001 for the biotechnology and chemical arts, and 2002 for the mechanical arts.
